The Old Botanical Garden in Zürich, established in 1837, is a historic and charming green oasis located in the city center on the site of the former "zur Katz" fortification. It features a diverse collection of old and exotic trees, an arboretum, and the medieval Gessner Garden that showcases over 50 medicinal plants used in the 16th century, honoring the famed Swiss naturalist Conrad Gessner.

The octagonal Palm House, a protected 19th-century glass and iron structure, is part of the garden and now serves as a venue for concerts, theater, and exhibitions. Although the university relocated its main botanical garden to a newer site in 1976, the Old Botanical Garden remains a beloved spot for relaxation and cultural activities in the heart of Zürich, blending natural beauty with historical significance. It is publicly accessible and open throughout the year with no admission fee.
