Riom Castle
Switzerland, Switzerland
Riom Castle is a prominent medieval fortress in the village of Riom-Parsonz, part of the Surses municipality in Graubünden canton, Switzerland.
Built shortly after 1227 by the Barons of Wangen from South Tyrol and sold to the Bishop of Chur in 1258, it served as a bishop's bailiff seat, meeting place, and prison, featuring a tall bergfried tower connected to a multi-story palas within protective ring walls.
Recognized as a Swiss heritage site of national significance, the largest castle complex in the Surses district now hosts the Origen Festival for cultural performances in its 220-seat theater, accessible by rail and offering guided tours amid the alpine landscape.
