Ruina da Frundsberg (Ruine Frauenberg)
Ruschein, Switzerland
Ruina da Frundsberg, also known as Ruine Frauenberg, is a medieval castle ruin on a forested hill west of Ruschein in the Surselva region of Graubünden, Switzerland, likely built between the 11th and 13th centuries as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Frauenberg, first documented in 1257.
It served as a compact fortified stronghold during the 13th and early 14th centuries, home to notable figures like the minstrel Heinrich II von Frauenberg around 1300, whose poems appear in the Codex Manesse, before falling into disuse after the family's decline.
Today, the remnants on the broad ridge southwest of St. George's Church offer hikers a scenic spot with a fireplace, panoramic views, and occasional events like light paths or medieval reenactments.
