Ruine Haldenstein
Haldenstein, Chur, Switzerland, Switzerland
Ruine Haldenstein, also known as Alt-Haldenstein Castle ruins, is a medieval fortress remnant overlooking the village of Haldenstein near Chur in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland.
Originating in the 12th century as the seat of the Haldenstein noble family, which died out by the late 14th century, it passed through various owners and remained inhabited until the 17th century before partial collapses from earthquakes in 1769, 1771, and 1787 left it in ruins.
Today, the site features atmospheric remnants, a vibrant rose garden best visited in June, panoramic views over Chur and the Rhine Valley, and a small museum, making it a peaceful spot for history and nature enthusiasts.
