Ruine Hochjuvalt
Rothenbrunnen, Switzerland, Switzerland
Ruine Hochjuvalt is a medieval castle ruin perched above the village of Rothenbrunnen in the Domleschg Valley of Switzerland's canton of Graubünden.
Built around 1216 by the von Juvalt family as vassals of the Bishop of Chur, it features an upper castle on rocky heights and a lower section near ancient trade routes, with watchtowers, palaces, and fortifications typical of 13th-century defensive architecture.
Sold in 1462 and abandoned by the early 16th century, the site was later reinforced during World War II and now offers visitors panoramic views, accessible hiking paths, and occasional openings for group events.
