Ruine Manegg
Zürich, Switzerland, Switzerland
Ruine Manegg is a picturesque medieval castle ruin on the eastern slopes of the Albis range above Zürich, Switzerland, near the Leimbach area and residential neighborhood of Manegg.
Constructed by 1303 during the Holy Roman Empire era, it served as the ancestral seat of the House of Manesse, the noble family famously linked to the Manesse Codex of medieval poetry, though it's unclear if the castle or family took the name first.
Now reduced to stone remnants exemplifying fortified hilltop design from the 10th-13th centuries, the site offers hiking access and panoramic views, preserved as a historic landmark amid Zürich's urban landscape.
