Ruine Oberjuvalt
Rothenbrunnen, Switzerland, Switzerland
Ruine Oberjuvalt, also known as Innerjuvalt Castle, is a medieval castle ruin dramatically positioned on a rocky outcrop high above the southern end of Rothenbrunnen village in Switzerland's canton of Graubünden.
Built around 1250 by the lords of Juvalt as vassals of the Bishop of Chur, it featured a main tower, cistern, palas, and lower outer bailey near ancient trade routes, remaining in their possession until 1515 when it was already described as a ruin by 1550.
Excavated and restored in the late 20th century by local castle associations, the site now welcomes visitors with accessible grounds and a rentable tower for small groups, offering insights into 13th-century defensive architecture amid stunning Domleschg Valley views.
