Ruins of Poonakary Fort is the remains of a colonial fort in Pooneryn, near the Jaffna Peninsula in northern Sri Lanka. It was first built by the Portuguese to protect their position in the area, then later taken over and expanded by the Dutch before passing to the British. Today it survives only as ruins, but it is still an important historic site that reflects the region’s strategic past and long colonial history.
