Rümligen Castle
Riggisberg, Switzerland, Switzerland
Rümligen Castle is a medieval chateau in the village of Rümligen, now part of Riggisberg municipality in Switzerland's Canton of Bern, with its core dating to the late 11th century and first mentioned around 1075.
Owned by the Freiherr von Rümligen family during the High Middle Ages, who donated lands to local priories, it passed to the Sommerau-Rümligen lineage in 1380 before coming under Bernese control in 1388, later held by patrician families.
In 1709, Samuel Frisching rebuilt it into a Baroque palace around the original structure, and it remains a privately owned Swiss heritage site of national significance amid the Gürbe Valley landscape.
