Schauenberg
Hofstetten, Switzerland
Schauenberg is a medieval castle ruin located on a hilltop in Hofstetten, part of the Elgg municipality in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland.
Fortifications existed there since the Iron Age, evolving into a wooden structure by the early 13th century and expanding into a massive keep around the 1250s under the Lords of Schauenberg.
Destroyed in 1344, the site later served as a beacon station in Zurich's 17th-century warning system and today functions as a modern high watch or signal point offering panoramic views.
