Schloss Landshut
Utzenstorf, Switzerland
Schloss Landshut is Switzerland's only surviving moated castle, located in Utzenstorf in the Canton of Bern amid a vast English-style park on a sandstone hill above the Emme River valley.
First documented in 1253 with roots possibly to around 1000, it served as the seat of the Lords of Uzansdorf from 1175 until 1323, later becoming a Bernese bailiwick center after 1513 with expansions like the main building rebuilt in 1624-1630 under Bailiff Abraham Jenner.
Transformed into a neoclassical residence by Niklaus Rudolf von Wattenwyl in the early 19th century, it now houses the Landshut Castle Museum and Swiss Museum of Wildlife and Hunting, recognized as a heritage site of national significance with period rooms, hunting artifacts, and wildlife exhibits.
