Schloss Ortenstein
Switzerland, Switzerland
Schloss Ortenstein is a well-preserved medieval castle located in the municipality of Domleschg near Tumegl/Tomils in Switzerland's canton of Graubünden.
Built around 1250 likely by the Lords of Vaz on bishop's land near Chur, it was first documented in 1309 and served as a strategic residence, passing through noble families like Werdenberg-Sargans and Travers, who rebuilt it extensively in the 15th and 18th centuries after wartime destruction.
Recognized as a Swiss heritage site of national significance, the complex features a seven-story residence tower, Gothic chapel, and later Renaissance additions, now privately owned by the Tscharner family.
