Schloss Rietberg
Domleschg, Switzerland, Switzerland
Schloss Rietberg is a historic hill castle in the municipality of Pratval within Domleschg, Graubünden canton, Switzerland, with its central 13th-century tower possibly built around an earlier 12th-century structure by the Lords of Rietberg, who served as vassals to local nobility and the Bishop of Chur.
The site gained notoriety in 1621 during the Bündner Wirren when Jörg Jenatsch murdered Pompeius Planta there amid Catholic-Protestant conflicts, leading to later ownership changes among families like Salis, Buol, and Planta before becoming privately owned.
Recognized as a Swiss heritage site of national significance, it features thick walls, a medieval cistern, 17th-18th century residential wings, and a crenelated ring wall, now adapted with modern apartments while preserving its defensive architecture.
