Schloss Schwarzenburg
Switzerland, Switzerland
Schloss Schwarzenburg is a 16th-century Renaissance castle in the municipality of Schwarzenburg in Switzerland's canton of Bern.
Built between 1573 and 1576 to replace the costly and remote Grasburg Castle, it served as an administrative center and residence for governors alternating between Bern and Fribourg in their shared condominium until 1798, when it became solely Bernese.
Renovated in 1980-83 and acquired by a dedicated foundation in 2009 after administrative reorganization, the well-preserved structure now hosts art exhibitions, events, guided tours, and community gatherings as a nationally significant heritage site.
