Schloss Spittel is a historic castle in Sumiswald, Canton of Bern, Switzerland, established in 1225 by Lüthold von Sumiswald as a hospital and refuge for pilgrims and the poor, hence its name derived from "Spittel" meaning hospital.
Originally endowed to the Teutonic Knights' commandery in the Swabia-Alsace-Burgundy bailiwick, it served religious and charitable purposes amid the village's transition from serfdom in 1525 and sale to Bern in 1698.
The structure, with its restored medieval appearance, now functions as a nursing home while preserving its role as a key cultural landmark in the Emmental region.
