Schloss Tarasp, a prominent medieval castle towering over the village of Tarasp in the Scuol municipality of Graubünden canton, Switzerland, dates back to the 11th century, possibly as early as the 10th, with its name derived from "terra aspera" meaning wild earth, reflecting the untamed Inn river valley lands it overlooks.

Originally built by the Tarasp family, who established a barony there, it featured an initial ring wall, chapel, and bell tower serving as a watchtower; over centuries, it changed hands among bishops of Chur, the Matsch family, Tyrolean counts, Habsburgs, and Austrian nobility like the Dietrichsteins, enduring sieges, expansions in the 13th-16th centuries, and a 1612 sacking before major restorations in 1714-1732 and 1906-1916 by Dr. Karl Lingner, who added a grand organ and furnishings.

Today, the well-preserved fortress with its palas, zwinger, half-towers, and Baroque onion-domed campanile stands as a Swiss heritage site of national significance, hosting cultural events and offering panoramic alpine views accessible by road or trails.
