Schloss Wildegg - Museum Aargau
Möriken-Wildegg, Switzerland, Switzerland
Schloss Wildegg, operated as part of Museum Aargau, is a Baroque castle and estate in Möriken-Wildegg, Switzerland, originally constructed in the early 13th century by the Habsburgs as a fortified stronghold with a prominent main tower.
It passed through families like the Lords of Hallwyl before the Effinger family acquired it in 1483, owning it for eleven generations; they rebuilt it after a 1552 fire in Late Gothic style and transformed it around 1700 into a luxurious Baroque residence with expansive gardens, vineyards, and estate lands.
Bequeathed to the Swiss Confederation in 1912, it opened as a public museum in 1917 featuring furnished rooms from circa 1800, talking portraits of past residents, a historic kitchen and pleasure garden, and today spans about 100 hectares managed by a foundation for cultural events and tours.
