Schloss Zwingen BL
Zwingen, Switzerland, Switzerland
Schloss Zwingen is a well-preserved medieval castle complex situated on two islands in the Birs River in Zwingen, canton of Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland.
Its oldest sections date to the second half of the 13th century, built by the Lords of Zwingen to control the strategic narrow valley and trade route linking Basel to the south, later managed by the Barons of Ramstein from 1312.
The site includes an outer bailey called Ramsteinerhof with high walls and a round tower base, a chapel, a covered stone bridge replacing an old drawbridge, and repurposed buildings now serving as a wine cellar, granary from 1561, and local administration offices.
