Sogn Parcazi Castle and Church
Switzerland, Switzerland
Sogn Parcazi Castle and Church is a ruined medieval complex on a steep hill west of Trin village in Graubünden canton, Switzerland, combining a fortified church of St. Pancras with castle structures dating back possibly to the 8th century on a pre-Christian site.
Originally a refuge and early parish church expanded into a feudal castle by the 11th-13th centuries under Reichenau Abbey and later nobles like the Werdenberg family, it was destroyed by fire in 1470, never rebuilt, and later used by the Swiss Army before full excavation and restoration from 1931 to 2010.
Recognized as a Swiss heritage site of national significance, the 50 by 80 meter site features a 12th-century cistern, 11th-century tower, 13th-century palas, and Gothic church remnants offering panoramic views.
