Sola Castle Ruins
Mitlödi, Glarus Süd, Switzerland, Switzerland
Sola Castle Ruins are medieval remnants on a steep hill called Schlossbüchel north of Sool, now part of Mitlödi in Glarus Süd municipality, Glarus canton, Switzerland.
Inhabited from the late 12th to early 13th century and likely abandoned around 1250 amid Habsburg expansion, the site possibly served as a refuge castle with a core bergfried, outer bailey, and evidence of prosperity like horseshoe finds and a tiled stove. Excavated in 1927-1929 and 2005, the second-largest ruin in the canton after Vorburg features conserved walls and a picknick area, with stones reused locally after a 1713 fire.
