Tellenburg
Frutigen, Switzerland, Switzerland
Tellenburg Castle is a medieval ruin overlooking the village of Frutigen in Switzerland's canton of Bern.
Built around 1200 by the Lords of Kien and later owned by the Lords of Wädenswil, it functioned as a customs house for travelers crossing the Lötschen and Gemmi passes and as an administrative center under Bernese rule after the Barons von Turn sold their rights in 1400.
Destroyed in 1798 and damaged by fire in 1885 after serving as a poorhouse, the site preserves stone walls and a restored tower from 1930, offering panoramic views of the Bernese Alps as a protected heritage remnant.
