Toffen Castle
Toffen, Switzerland, Switzerland
Toffen Castle is a Baroque country estate in the municipality of Toffen in Switzerland's canton of Bern.
First documented in 1306 as a medieval stronghold owned by Johann von Bremgarten, it passed through noble families like the von Gysenstein, Senn von Münsingen, and Ulrich von Toffen before Bartholomew May renovated it into a late Gothic manor in 1507.
Further transformed in the 17th century by the Knobloch and von Werdt families with Renaissance interiors and a full Baroque rebuild in 1671-73 by Johann Georg von Wendt, including a lowered main building, added wing, and elegant gardens, it remains privately owned by descendants as a Swiss heritage site of national significance.
