Tokmar Castle
Turkey, Turkey
Tokmar Castle is a ruined medieval fortress in Mersin Province, southern Turkey, perched on a hill at about 400 meters above Taşucu Bay, roughly 33 km from Silifke.
Built by the Byzantine Empire in the 12th century, possibly as Castellum Novum, it features polygonal walls with semicircular bastions and served to protect nearby coastal areas and ancient ports like Palaiai.
The site, accessible via a winding road off the Silifke-Anamur highway, shows remnants of double-shell limestone construction and was likely an Armenian aristocratic stronghold before changing hands among regional powers.
