Waldegg Castle
Feldbrunnen-St. Niklaus, Switzerland
Waldegg Castle is a magnificent Baroque summer residence built between 1682 and 1686 near Solothurn in the municipality of Feldbrunnen-St. Niklaus, canton of Solothurn, Switzerland, commissioned by the influential patrician Johann Viktor von Besenval.
It features a striking 78-meter-long façade in the local Türmlihaus style blended with French and Italian Baroque elements, including tower-like pavilions, galleries with allegorical statues, two chapels, and an early Baroque garden with symmetrical parterres, an orangery, and a long tree-lined avenue.
Recognized as a Swiss heritage site of national significance, it now functions as a museum showcasing Solothurn's history and its ties to France, with restored interiors, a theater, and public access for guided tours amid scenic Jura landscapes.
