Wynegg Castle
Switzerland, Switzerland
Wynegg Castle is a ruined medieval hill castle situated on a rocky outcropping north of the village of Malans in Graubünden canton, Switzerland.
Built around 1200 by the Wynegg family, who served the Bishop of Chur or the Lords of Vaz, it passed through various noble hands including the Vaz, Montfort, Toggenburg families, and later the bishopric before falling into disuse by 1548.
In the early 17th century, Andreas von Salis incorporated the ruins into a new patrician residence, which the Guler von Davos family expanded until its abandonment in the late 18th century; today, remnants like parts of the ring wall and traces of the three-story palas remain as a cultural heritage site.
