Angerja is a small village in Kohila Parish, Rapla County, in northwestern Estonia.
Known for its peaceful rural setting, the village has a long history dating back to at least the 13th century and is surrounded by farmland, forests, and the Angerja stream. Its most notable landmark is the ruin of a medieval fortified manor or tower house, built around 1400 as the residence of a vassal associated with the Teutonic Knights.
Constructed mainly of limestone, the stronghold was later expanded but was eventually destroyed during the Livonian War in the 16th century. Today, the castle ruins remain an important historical attraction and provide a glimpse into Estonia’s medieval past. Although only fragments of the structure survive, they are among the village’s most distinctive cultural heritage sites.
