Kalvi Vasallilinnus is a medieval vassal castle located in the village of Kalvi on Estonia’s northern coast.

Built in the 15th century by the noble von Lode family, it was one of the largest fortified manor castles in the Virumaa region and served as both a residence and a defensive stronghold. The castle was constructed in a castellum style around a small central courtyard, with living and service rooms enclosed by stone walls. Despite its fortress-like appearance, its walls were relatively thin compared to many medieval castles.

Remains of the courtyard, well, vaulted rooms, and defensive features can still be seen today. In the late 18th century, part of the fortress was converted into a manor house, which was later destroyed by fire. Today, the castle ruins remain an important historical landmark, standing alongside the nearby Kalvi Manor and offering insight into Estonia’s medieval noble heritage.
