Verified Audaku matkarada

Viidu, Estonia, Estonia

Audaku matkarada (also called Audaku õpperada or Audaku Study Trail) is a 2.3-kilometer nature trail located in Viidu village, Saaremaa Parish, Saare County, Estonia, that traverses the characteristic habitats and forests of the Viidumäe Nature Reserve.

This area is the oldest and highest part of Saaremaa island, with a peak reaching 59 meters above sea level, and the trail's visible landforms were formed approximately 9,500 years ago at about 50 meters elevation. The trail is marked with red trail markers and blue paint marks on trees, making it easy to navigate by following signposts.

The Viidumäe Nature Reserve has a mild maritime climate and is particularly rich in species, where visitors might encounter ivy climbing up pine trees or rare orchids, and various Estonian meadow flowers bloom in the wooded meadow along the trail.

The trail begins and ends at the Viidumäe Nature Center's parking lot, which can accommodate 6 cars or 3 small buses, and offers experiences in every season—spring brings forest undergrowth flowers and bird songs, summer allows visits to the low swamp and wooded meadow, autumn showcases the colorful deciduous forest, and winter highlights mosses, lichens, and wildlife tracks.
