Château de Rivieren
Ganshoren, Belgium, Netherlands
Château de Rivieren in Ganshoren, Brussels, Belgium, originated as a 12th-century defensive tower surrounded by a large moat, later evolving through expansions from the 13th to 19th centuries into a romantic castle with a surviving square stone donjon, brick wings, and a pond remnant of its original defenses within a 10-hectare Albert Park.
Owned initially by the Clutinck family and later acquired in 1628 by Frans I van Kinschot, treasurer-general of the Spanish Netherlands, it was elevated to a barony in 1638 and county in 1659 under his descendants, who transformed it into a pleasure domain.
Classified as cultural heritage since 1983 after passing through noble lines like the Villegas de Saint-Pierre-Jette family until its 1973 sale to a Swiss firm, it now hosts conferences, receptions, exhibitions, and events in its preserved salons, armory, and library.
