Croy Castle
Aarle-Rixtel, Netherlands, Netherlands
Croy Castle in Aarle-Rixtel, Netherlands, dates back to the early 15th century as a moated stone noble residence in the Strijp area, first owned by Rutger Willemsz.
van Erp around 1422. In 1477 Jacob van Croy, a member of the prominent Burgundian court nobility, purchased it and lent his name to the site, later selling to Cornelis van Bergen around 1494, who likely expanded it to its current form with a west wing featuring a round corner tower, an octagonal southeast tower possibly housing a chapel, a gatehouse, and courtyard.
Passing through various noble families including Van der Brugghen—who added 18th-century interiors like ornate stucco and a unique Spanish sheepfold—it served later roles before becoming privately owned, preserving its Gothic and Renaissance elements amid the estate.
