Het Oude Loo
Apeldoorn, Netherlands, Netherlands
Het Oude Loo in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, is a medieval castle dating to the 15th century, originally serving as a hunting lodge surrounded by a moat.
Acquired in 1684 by stadtholder William III of Orange, who built the adjacent grander Paleis Het Loo as his primary residence, it functioned for the court as an apothecary and auxiliary structure while the new palace expanded with baroque wings, colonnades, and interiors by architects like Jacob Roman.
Later owned by Louis Napoleon in the early 19th century, who filled its moat, it remains part of the royal Kroondomein Het Loo estate, used privately by the Dutch royal family as a country house and guest residence.
