Kasteel Geldrop
Geldrop, Netherlands, Netherlands
Kasteel Geldrop in Geldrop, Netherlands, was built around 1350 by Philip and Jan van Geldrop as a fortified keep with a moat, held as a fief from the Duchy of Guelders, and first documented that year with the family playing roles in regional conflicts like the Battle of Baesweiler.
Passing to the Van Horne family after 1462, it was largely destroyed in 1512 during the Guelders Wars but rebuilt in 1616 by Amandus I van Horne with a central high house featuring stepped gables, hosting figures like Bishop Michael Ophovius—visited by Peter Paul Rubens—and serving royalist interests in the Eighty Years' War.
Later owned by the Van Sprangh family from 1768, who renovated the dilapidated site including demolishing the roofless keep in 1839, it now stands as a preserved estate with gardens, used for events while showcasing its Gothic and Renaissance transformations.
