Kasteel Hardenbroek
Driebergen-Rijsenburg, Netherlands, Netherlands
Kasteel Hardenbroek is a moated manor castle located at Graaf van Lynden van Sandenburgweg 28 near Cothen in Driebergen-Rijsenburg, Utrecht province, Netherlands.
First mentioned in 1331 and named for its "hard marshland" site on clay foundations, it was founded around 1260 by Gijsbert van Hardenbroek—a branch of the Van Sterkenburg family—as a square keep house, later recognized as a ridderhofstad in 1536 under Joost van Hardenbroek.
Remaining in the Van Hardenbroek family for over 350 years until 1684, sold and repurchased in 1748, it underwent major 1694 renovations by Pieter Godert van Rossem and 1730s updates by Willem Kerckrinck, with occupancy until 1917 before rentals and 20th-century restorations; it passed to the Loudon family in 1994.
