Kasteel Van Mheer
Mheer, Netherlands, Netherlands
Kasteel van Mheer in Mheer, Netherlands, emerged during the 11th-13th century land reclamation on the Margraten Plateau, with its oldest parts like the round tower's foundations possibly dating to the late 11th century, first documented in 1314 as a stone house held in fief by Willem van Mere from the Duke of Limburg.
Expanded into a four-winged castle around a courtyard—west wing from early 14th century, north from late 14th, east with tower in 15th, and south arcade around 1570 under the Van Imstenraedt family—it includes a U-shaped farmyard with a 1612 gatehouse bearing their coat of arms.
Owned continuously by noble lineages from Van Mere and Van Imstenraedt since the 14th century, it passed to the De Loë family in 1668 who still hold it privately, featuring 20th-century facade updates blending Tudor and Flemish styles amid a 1852 park.
