Maasi Ordulinnuse Varemed, also known as the Maasi Castle ruins, are the remains of a medieval Livonian Order fortress located on the island of Saaremaa in western Estonia.

The castle was established in 1345 after the suppression of the St. George’s Night Uprising and served as an important administrative and military center for eastern Saaremaa and the nearby island of Muhu. Originally built from wood and later reconstructed in stone, the fortress played a significant role in regional defense during the Middle Ages.

It was damaged and rebuilt several times before being deliberately destroyed on the orders of Danish King Frederick II in 1576 to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. Today, the preserved ruins, including impressive walls rising up to about eight meters high, are a popular historical attraction. Set in a peaceful coastal landscape, the site offers visitors a glimpse into Saaremaa’s medieval past and the turbulent history of the Livonian Order in Estonia.
