The Mauritshuis is a world‑renowned art museum in the center of The Hague, Netherlands, housed in a striking 17th‑century classical palace originally built as a private residence for Johan Maurits, Count of Nassau‑Siegen, between 1633 and 1644.

The building, designed by Jacob van Campen and Pieter Post, sits on the Hofvijver pond next to the Binnenhof and has functioned as a public museum since 1822, officially known as the Royal Picture Gallery. It is especially famous for its compact but exceptional collection of Dutch and Flemish paintings from the 15th to the 18th century, including Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, Rembrandt’s The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp, and Carel Fabritius’s The Goldfinch, packed into a relatively small space so that visitors encounter masterpiece after masterpiece in intimate gallery rooms.

With around 800 works on display, the Mauritshuis is considered one of the most important museums of the Dutch Golden Age, and it remains a must‑see for art lovers in the Dutch capital city.
