Punane Torn, or the Red Tower, is the oldest surviving building in Pärnu and the last remaining defensive tower from the medieval fortifications of the historic town of New-Pärnu.
Built in the 15th century, it originally served as both a fortress tower and a prison, and its name comes from the red bricks that once covered the tower inside and out. The tower was larger in the past, with four stories and a deep prison level, although only three stories remain today. Over the centuries, it has also been used for other purposes, including as the town archives.
Today, Punane Torn operates as a museum and cultural attraction. Visitors can learn about the history of medieval Pärnu through exhibitions and a panoramic cinema experience, making it one of the city's most significant historical landmarks.
