The Radboud Institute for Biological and Environmental Sciences (RIBES) is a research institute within the Faculty of Science at Radboud University in Nijmegen, Netherlands, located in the Huygens building at Heyendaalseweg 135. RIBES aims to perform world-leading research to understand how the natural environment responds to human impact, investigating stress and adaptation processes in severely affected ecosystems to mitigate ecosystem degradation and find solutions for restoring the natural environment. The institute is internationally unique because its research encompasses three major groups of organisms—microorganisms, plants, and animals—and spans nearly all levels of biological organisation, with excellent experimental facilities supporting top-quality research on themes with high societal relevance. RIBES organizes its work into four research departments and four overarching research themes under the mission "Towards Healthy Ecosystems," which contributes to multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals including Life on Land, Life Below Water, Climate Action, Zero Hunger, and Clean Water and Sanitation.
