Ruurlo Castle, located in Ruurlo, Gelderland province, Netherlands, dates back to the early 14th century with its first record in 1326 as a fief owned by the Van Holthuizen family.
It passed to the noble Van Heeckeren family around 1400, who held it for over five centuries until 1977, developing features like its large square tower by 1572 and another in the early 17th century amid fires and renovations.
After serving as Ruurlo's town hall from 1984 to 2005, businessman Hans Melchers purchased and restored it in 2013, opening it in 2017 as part of Museum MORE on an artificial island with moats, a maze, and Baroque-Rococo interiors.
