The Taras Shevchenko Museum in Kyiv, officially known as the Taras Shevchenko National Museum, is a major cultural institution dedicated to the life and work of Ukraine’s national poet and painter, Taras Shevchenko. Located on Taras Shevchenko Boulevard in a 19th‑century Renaissance‑style palace once owned by the wealthy Tereshchenko family, it opened in 1949 and was later granted national status to highlight its national importance. The museum brings together more than 4,000 exhibits across 24 halls, including over 800 of Shevchenko’s original artworks, personal belongings, manuscripts, rare first editions of his poetry, photographs, and archival materials that trace his artistic and literary career. In addition to preserving his heritage, the museum also runs research programs, publishes scholarly works, and organizes contemporary art exhibitions, educational events, and conferences, making it both a memorial to the poet and a modern cultural and educational center in Kyiv.
