The TU Delft Hortus Botanicus, founded in 1917 in Delft, Netherlands, is a botanical garden originally created to cultivate plants for research and education focused on their technological applications, especially those from tropical and subtropical regions.

The garden covers about 2 hectares and features an arboretum, a central garden, and greenhouses that house tropical plants like coconut palms, tea, coffee, and rubber trees. It was designed to support scientific research related to the industrial uses of plants such as oils, fibers, dyes, and medicinal products.

Over the years, it has become a valuable scientific resource and cultural heritage site, maintaining its role as an experimental field lab for various TU Delft departments and collaborating in projects on biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, bioinspired innovations, and urban greenery.

The garden has recently strengthened ties with the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, serving as a “living lab” that combines botanical conservation, education, and technical research while offering a peaceful green oasis in Delft.
