Abaúj Castle is a historic medieval fortress located in the village of Abaújvár in northeastern Hungary, near the Slovak border.

The site dates back to the 11th century and is closely associated with the powerful Aba family, one of the most influential noble families in early Hungarian history. The castle is believed to have been developed during the reign of King Samuel Aba and served as an important political and administrative center. The fortress played a significant role in the Kingdom of Hungary during the Middle Ages and gave its name to the historic Abaúj region and county.

It survived the Mongol invasion of the 13th century but gradually lost its strategic importance in later centuries. Today, visitors can see the remains of the ancient earthwork fortifications and archaeological site, which offer insight into Hungary’s early medieval past. Although much of the original castle has disappeared, the site remains an important historical landmark and a symbol of the region’s heritage.
