Oroszlánkő - Csáki-Vár
Gánt, Hungary, Hungary
Oroszlánkő, also known as Csáki-Vár, is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle located near Gánt in Hungary’s Vértes Mountains. The castle is believed to have been associated with the powerful Csák noble family and once stood in a strategic position overlooking the surrounding valleys. Today, only small remains of the fortification survive, as it was destroyed during the Ottoman campaigns in the 16th century and gradually fell into ruin. Surrounded by forest and accessible via hiking trails, the site is popular with walkers and history enthusiasts who enjoy exploring lesser-known historical landmarks. Although the ruins are modest, the location offers a glimpse into Hungary’s medieval past and the natural beauty of the Vértes region.
