The Bishop’s Palace in Sümeg is one of Hungary’s most important Baroque landmarks.

Built between 1748 and 1755 as the residence of the bishops of Veszprém, it played a significant role during a period when Sümeg became an important religious and administrative center. Located below the famous Sümeg Castle, the palace is closely associated with Bishop Márton Padányi Biró, who helped shape the town’s cultural and architectural development in the 18th century.

Its elegant architecture, richly decorated interiors, and historical significance make it a notable example of Hungarian Baroque design. After extensive restoration, the palace now functions as a museum and cultural venue. Exhibitions explore the history of the building, the lives of the bishops, the Baroque era, and the art of renowned painter Franz Anton Maulbertsch.
