Bled Castle

Bled, Upper Carniola, Slovenia

---

Bled Castle, perched atop a steep cliff overlooking Lake Bled in the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia, is the country's oldest castle, with the first written mention dating to 1011.

Its dramatic location provides spectacular views of the lake, Bled Island, and the surrounding Julian Alps, making it one of Slovenia’s most iconic landmarks. Over the centuries, the castle developed from a medieval fortress into a complex featuring defensive walls, towers, courtyards, and residential buildings.

It played an important role in the region’s history and today houses a museum that presents the cultural heritage of Bled and the surrounding area. Visitors come to explore its historic architecture, museum exhibits, chapel, and traditional printing workshop while enjoying some of the finest panoramic views in Slovenia. With its blend of history, scenery, and cultural significance, Bled Castle is one of the country’s most popular tourist attractions.
