Brdo Castle
Predoslje, Slovenia, Slovenia
Brdo Castle near Predoslje, Slovenia, is a Renaissance-style mansion built around 1510 by Carniolan nobleman Georg Egkh in the Duchy of Carniola, marking one of the region's first such structures with corner towers and a courtyard. It passed through noble families like the Zois in the 18th century, fell into decay early in the 20th century, and was restored by Prince Paul of Yugoslavia in 1935 before becoming Josip Broz Tito's summer retreat after World War II, where he suffered his fatal seizure in 1980. Today, the estate serves as Slovenia's key venue for diplomatic conferences amid scenic woods, ponds, and gardens.
