Csorbakő Várrom
Szuhogy, Hungary, Hungary
Csorbakő Várrom is the ruin of a medieval castle located near the village of Szuhogy in the Rudabánya Hills of northern Hungary.
It was probably built around the beginning of the 14th century by the Ládi family and stood on a wooded ridge overlooking the surrounding area. The castle later became the property of the influential Perényi family, who rebuilt and expanded it into a noble residence. During the 16th century, it passed to the Bebek family, and the fortress became notorious for housing a counterfeit coin workshop that operated for many years.
After the death of its owner Imre Bebek in 1553, the castle was besieged and deliberately destroyed. It was never rebuilt, although local people occasionally used the ruins as a refuge during later Ottoman raids. Today, only scattered stone remains and earthworks survive, hidden among the forest, offering visitors a glimpse into the region’s medieval past.
