The Forgách Castle in Szécsény is a beautiful Baroque manor that was built between 1753 and 1763 by the influential Forgách family on the site of an older medieval fortress.

Parts of the earlier castle were incorporated into the new building, giving it a rich connection to the region’s long history. The castle is considered one of the most important examples of rural Baroque architecture in Hungary. It was later owned by several notable families and underwent various changes over the centuries, while retaining its elegant appearance and historical character.

Today, the castle houses the Forgách-Lipthay Castle Museum, also known as the Kubinyi Ferenc Museum, where visitors can explore exhibitions on the archaeology, history, and cultural heritage of Nógrád County. Surrounded by a historic park, the castle remains one of Szécsény’s most significant landmarks, offering a combination of architectural beauty, local history, and cultural attractions.
