Gracar Turn
Hrastje, Šentjernej, Slovenia, Slovenia
Gracar Turn, located on the northern edge of Hrastje in the Šentjernej municipality of southeastern Slovenia, is a 14th-century castle first noted around 1311 by the Grätzer family from nearby Gradac, from which it derives its name. This fortified structure centers on a multistory residential tower flanked by two large square towers within a rectangular complex, fortified further in 1537 and modified after 1821 when Anton Rudež purchased it, hosting writer Janez Trdina who penned works like Tales and Stories of the Gorjanci Hills there. Damaged by fire set by partisans in 1942 during World War II, it was repaired by 1952 and remains privately owned by the Schoeppl family after restoration.
