Grad Kozjak
Dolenje Selce, Slovenia, Slovenia
Grad Kozjak, also known as Kozjak Castle (Grad Kozjak or Schloss Kosieck), is a 13th-century ruined fortress on a rocky hill above Dolenje Selce near Dobrnič in the Trebnje municipality of Lower Carniola, Slovenia. Built after 1250 by the Counts of Gorizia, it was first documented in 1332 as castrum Cozyak and served as the seat of the Kosieck knights, evolving into a separate lordship with owners like Ulrik, Ortolf, and Louis of Kosieck until the late 15th century when it passed to the Saurer and Räuber families before Auersperg acquisition in 1689. Abandoned by the early 19th century, the site retains outer walls, a central building, tower foundations, and a basic rectangular floorplan amid overgrown terrain, linked to local legends including Josip Jurčič's story of Jurij Kozjak.
